the green fanBlueThunder and climate-neutral operation

For Bluethunder, creating economic added value goes together with sustainability and preserving the environment. Only a company that achieves a balance between economic, and environmental aspects can operate successfully in the long term and provide sustained value to its customers. So our organization has embraced the responsibility to minimize the ecological impact on our environment, and endeavoars to make a positive contribution the global community. We do this by hosting all our servers in a climate neutral data centre called Evoswitch.

Normally, datacenters are cooled with energy wasteful compressors, operating day in, day out, massively adding to a datacenter’s carbon footprint. EvoSwitch designed a better, cost effective environmentally friendly solution. We installed Free Cooling– an energy-efficient cooling concept that intelligently utilizes the cooler outside air. With the cool temperatures in the Netherlands, the compressor is no longer needed for forty percent of the time, saving energy and lower costs to our customers.

EvoSwitch has invested in the innovative Cold Air Corridor Concept. Cold air is drawn to the front of the cabinets, while warm air is efficiently extracted at the back. The system prevents a ‘short circuit’ between the cold and warm air, which makes it more energy-efficient and eliminates a major source of wasted energy.
Our advanced Uninterruptible Power Supplies use Delta Conversion. This is an innovative, energy-efficient method devised by UPS supplier APC The emergency power supply not only serves to condition the power feeds, but also makes a substantial contribution to the energy-efficiency of EvoSwitch.
EvoSwitch has taken its energy-efficient policy to the next level. High-frequency (HF) lighting, which oscillates at 30,000 Hz for optimal energy usage, has been fitted throughout the datacenter, supplemented with sensors that automatically switch off the lights when no one is present. One advantage of HF lighting is its extraordinarily low energy consumption.
The electricity that EvoSwitch consumes has been generated in an environmentally friendly way. We get our ‘green’ electricity from the DELTA power company. It’s called 'Zeeuws Groen' – the green electricity from Zeeland. The difference between ‘'Zeeuws Groen' and ordinary electricity is the way it is generated. 'Zeeuws Groen' is 100% 'green' electricity and is generated from sustainable energy sources such as wind, sun and biomass. With the profits on 'Zeeuws Groen', DELTA invests in new projects for generating more environmentally friendly 'Zeeuws Groen' power.

Climate Neutral Group

EvoSwitch cooperates with the Climate Neutral Group, to compensate for non-sustainable energy consumption at EvoSwitch, including the emergency power generators and company vehicles. EvoSwitch collaborates with the Climate Neutral Group on worldwide projects to restore the CO2 balance in the atmosphere, thus helping to alleviate climate problems globally.

To neutralize CO2 emissions, new trees are planted and biogas projects initiated. All the projects satisfy strict quality requirements and are checked by independent organizations. A particular feature of these projects is that they are not only good for the climate but also benefit the local population – often located in under-developed areas –.

The Green Grid

EvoSwitch is a member of The Green Grid. This worldwide consortium of ICT suppliers strives for more efficient energy use in datacenters. The founder members of The Green Grid are AMD, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Intel, IBM and SUN, but now these pioneers have been joined by many other companies including Cisco, Texas Instruments, EMC, Novell, Juniper Networks and Fujitsu Siemens.

*Please note that only our dedicated hosting solutions are hosted at Evoswitch and are climate neutral. Our shared hosting infrastructure is currently hosted elsewhere but will be migrated to Evoswitch in the future.
